What usually goes wrong in Las Vegas
Capacitors and contactors
These small electrical parts start the compressor and fan motors, and they take a beating in desert heat. A failed capacitor is one of the most common summer calls we get, and it's usually a quick repair.
Dirty condenser coils
Dust, pollen and debris pack into the outdoor coil, so the system can't shed heat. The result is high pressure, poor cooling and a harder-working compressor. Cleaning the coil often restores performance.
Refrigerant leaks
Low refrigerant isn't something a system "uses up." It means there's a leak. We find the leak and explain whether it can be repaired, instead of just topping it off.
Clogged condensate drains
Your AC removes moisture, and that water has to drain. When the line clogs, water backs up and a safety switch shuts the system off, or the water ends up on your ceiling.
Fan motors and compressors
Motors wear out under constant use. A failed compressor on an older system is often the point where replacement makes more sense than repair, and we'll tell you honestly when that's the case.
Before you call
- Check that the thermostat is set to cool and the temperature is below room temperature.
- Replace a dirty filter. A clogged filter can freeze the coil.
- Check the breakers for the indoor and outdoor units.
- If you see ice, turn the system off and let it thaw. Running it frozen can damage the compressor.
